Parokya ni Edgar and Aegis are in Bahrain for a rock concert for the Filipino community, ABS-CBN Middle East News Bureau reported Thursday. “Parokya ni Edgar” is an Alternative rock, Novelty, Funk, Experimental Filipino band and is famous for its original rock novelty songs and often satirical covers of famous songs. The band has since transcended musical genres, varying styles from one song to another - alternative rock to pop rock, funk to rapcore, and so on - while providing comic relief to their listeners. Band members are Alfonso “Chito” Miranda, Jr. (lead vocals), Buhawi “Buwi” Meneses (bass), Darius Gerard “Dariuken” Semaña (lead guitars), Gabrielle Ignatius “Gab” Chee-Kee (guitars / vocals), Ferdinand “Din Din” Moreno (drums), Francis Vincent “Vinci” Montaner (backup vocals / dialogue / comical acting / dancing).
On the other hand, Aegis is the Philippine female-dominated band composed of Juliet and Mercy Sunot (vocals), Stella Galindo (keyboard), Rey Abenoja (guitar), Rowena Pinpin (bass) and Vilma Goloviogo (drums) who popularized the songs with high notes like “Luha”, “Halik”, “Sinta”, “Bakit”, and “Mahal na mahal kita”.
The two OPM bands will perform Friday at the Marina Club in Manama for the third installment of the “Rakrakan Overload” organized by the TFC World Tours and ABS-CBN Middle East. Thousands of overseas Filipino workers as well as other nationalities from Bahrain and neighboring Saudi Arabia are expected to attend. The first part of the Rakrakan concert tour was a concert in Doha, Qatar, followed by a concert in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
