Hot teen actress Bea Alonso is finally been chosen to play the role as the country’s Betty La Fea, there were other Philippine young actresses being considered for the role. They were “Lobo” star Angel Locsin and “Maging Sino Ka Man” mainstay Anne Curtis. Earlier reports had said singer Regine Velasquez was also considered for the series. Actress Bea Alonso is the 12th star to be deglamorized while playing the lead role in the television series “Betty La Fea”, ABS-CBN’s biggest and most expensive franchise to date. Alonso is ecstatic about playing the role. Alonso said she first found out that she will star in the series during a party for ABS-CBN’s newest president Charo Santos-Concio. “Doon nalaman ko na, but of course sa business na ito hangga’t hindi ka pa nagte-taping or hangga’t hindi pa na-i-announce hindi pa sa iyo ‘yon. So hindi pa din ako masyadong nag-expect though, I was so happy and somehow nabigyan ako ng spark of hope na ako talaga ang gaganap,” said the actress.
To prepare for the series, Alonso will be attending some acting workshops. She will also watch the original series of Betty La Fea from Colombia. Betty La Fea (Ugly Betty) is a popular telenovela which originated in Colombia. The story revolves around Betty, an unattractive lady who works for a fashion design company as a secretary of Armando Mendoza, the president of the company and the man she will fall in love with. Though she may not be physically beautiful, she is kind-hearted, simple and smart.
Alonso said that for Betty La Fea, she will have to work with three new leading men and not with her onscreen partner, actor John Lloyd Cruz. “Unang una iyon pumasok sa utak ko paano na ako, wala na si John Lloyd. Siyempre hindi mo maalis sa akin iyon na kakabahan ako paano kung siya okey, ako hindi, iyong ganoon. Pero iyon na nga binigyan ako ni Lord na napakagandang project para mag-umpisa ng mag-isa, na mag-umpisa ng solo ka,” Alonso said. Alonso was first seen as a young nerd who transformed into a 20-year old lawyer in ABS-CBN’s “Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay,” who, at the age of 15 was nominated for Best Actress by the PMPC Awards. This made her the youngest nominee for the category.
