Aliaune Thiam (born April 30, 1973), better known by his stage name Akon, is a American R&B singer-songwriter, and record producer, of Senegalese origin. He rose to prominence in 2004 following the release of “Locked Up” the first single from his debut album Trouble. His second album, Konvicted, earned him a Grammy Award nomination for the single “Smack That.” He has since founded two record labels, Konvict Muzik and Kon Live Distribution. Now he released his newest album Freedom and his coming to the Philippines to perform and promote his album. This coming May 23 at Araneta Coliseum with special guest Filipino international singer Billy Crawford.

Freedom is the third studio album by Akon. The album was originally named Acquitted, however Akon changed it due to its negative connotation. It was released as a download on December 1, 2008, and in stores December 2, 2008. Freedom is the first album by Akon not to carry the Parental Advisory warning, although there is still profanity in the album. The album debuted at #7 on the Billboard 200, selling 110,000 copies its first week. It currently sold about 600,000 copies so far and has reached Gold status.
